Claudio Ranieri is the man Ligue 1 club, Nantes is looking up to, and is expected to take the reins of the club and lead them through to the next season.Ranieri, who was Leicester City former manager, is set to become the new manager for Nantes but due to his age, he requires a special dispensation.
During the 2015-16 season, Ranieri was the coach who led underdog team, Leicester to lift the Premier League Cup. However, following a poor run of form in the next season, he was sacked
Ranieri now has recently agreed to a two year contract with Nantes but since he is over 65 years of age, a special dispensation is required from France’s Professional Football League before he can take charge of the team.
Nantes Chairman, Waldermar Kita however believes that the French Football Federation is blocking the file.
“The league agrees, I believe that only the French Football Federation (FFF) with Mr. Domenech is blocking the file a little, I do not know why. What we are interested in is the experience as a footballer and coach, since we know very well that he has coached the biggest teams in Europe,” Kita said.
OFI defeated Panathinaikos, leaving them on the verge of exit from the Cup.
The midweek games had some other upsets like second division side Anagennisi Karditsas holding AEK to a draw, unlike what many expected.
Panathinaikos are on the brink of crashing out of the tournament after Olympiakos defeated Hania 4-0. The Greee giants had goals from Esteban Cambiasso, Brown Ideye and Felipe Pardo. Pantelis Theologou scored an own goal to complete the 4-0 rout.
Panathinaikos manager Andrea Stramaccioni left his role due to the poor result. Iraklis defeated Apollon Smyrnis 3-0 on Wednesday. This implies that Panathinaikos would exit the Cup in the group stage if Iraklis play a draw with OFI in the last round of games.
AEK also did not have a great game as they played a 2-2 draw at Anagennisi. Also, PAOK were forced to a draw by Trikala. The visitors could not score any goal as the game ended goalless.
There are reports that Algeria are set to name a new coach before their crucial game against Nigeria next month.
The North African side sacked their former handler Rajevan Milovan after players’ unrest in the disappointing 1-1 draw against Cameroon. The draw ensured they started theopening 2018 World Cup game in home soil. Many coaches have been linked with the job, but they have all turned them down, citing different concerns, according to reports.
Roma coach Rudi Garcia reportedly turned down an offer to take up the job as well. L’equipe reports that the Frenchman was pencilled as potential replacement for Milovan along with Marc Wilmots, Rolland Courbis, Alain Perrin, Paul Le Guen and others.
The Deputy Minister of Sport Stavros Kontonis filed a report to the European footballing body over the provocative banner that fans displayed when Albania played Switzerland at the Euro 2016 tournament that is ongoing in France.
The banner read “GREECE IS GUILTY REMEMBER THE GENOCIDE IN CAMARA 100,000 ALBANIAN VICTIMS.”
The banner claimed the country remains guilty over allegations of genocide of Chams, following WWII. The Greek Deputy Minister sent the complaints to UEFA arguing that the banner was “provocative, defamatory, unhistorical and offensive to Greece.” He questioned how it was raised, given the major security concerns and planning. The so-called ‘Cham issue’ was also raised ahead of the recent official visit to Albania by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Kotzias.
David Beckham is regarded as one of the best when it comes to freekick and other set piece situations.
He has found incredible success with goals against the likes of Greece and Wimbledon being regarded as amongst the best. Manchester United winger Ashley Young was signed from Aston Villa by former manager Sir Alex Ferguson as he had qualities similar to that of Beckham. After a few years in the wilderness, Young has found himself in a rich vein of form of late. He has been able to find the back of the net on a number of occasions last season.
Yet, the England international claims that he has not been able to replicate the famous goal scored by Beckham against Wimbledon. Beckham managed to find the back of the net against the Premier League minnows from the halfway line in the 1996-97 season. Many other players have gone from this position since then, but Beckham’s effort remains the most popular yet. The likes of Charlie Adam and Wayne Rooney have scored similar goals, but it is an art that Youngis yet to master. Beckham will be looking to recreate this goal when he returns to Old Trafford for a charity match. The former Real Madrid, AC Milan, and PSG star is now retired and is on the way towards owning a franchise in the MLS.
Arsene Wenger has already reinforced the defensive department of his team but a few more signings are expected to be made as the Frenchman is also seeking to strengthen the attacking section of his squad and a few names have popped up as there are a list of possible players that could be joining the Premier League club soon or are at least being linked with a move.
One of the players who are linked with Arsenal is EdinsonCavani from PSG. The Uruguayan attacker is not playing at his best and has never really managed on doing so since arriving to the French club. He was acquired by PSG on July of 2013 for a fee of €65 million.
