AEK Athens Win Against Rivals

 

Levi Garcia, a striker for the senior men’s football team of T&T, scored and assisted in Sunday’s Greece Super League victory over Panetolikos FC at the OPAP Arena in Greece for AEK Athens. Sergio Araujo, a former Argentina youth international, scored the first goal for AEK in the 12th minute. The 25-year-old scored his 11th goal of the season in the 35th minute on a feed from Ehsan Haji Safi, giving AEK a 2-0 lead. Joao Pedro Silva scored a penalty kick to make it 2-2 for Panetolikos five minutes before the halftime break.


Orbelin Pineda gave AEK back their two-goal lead six minutes after the game resumed, and Garcia set up Nordin Amrabat for their fourth goal in the 55th to seal the victory. This was an important victory for the greek club as the league has been very competitive this year round with multiple teams vouching to reach the top spot.

With the victory, AEK moved up to second place on the 14-club standings with 41 points from 18 matches. They are one point behind leaders Panathinaikos, who lost a late match to PAS Giannina. PAOK is third with 36 points, followed by Olympiacos, the defending champion, with 35 points, Aris, with 28, and Volos, with 26 points, to complete the top six. Garcia and AEK now turn their attention to the quarterfinals of the Greece Cup, where they will face Panserraikos on Wednesday.
