Villa finished in the 13th spot last term but they remain hopeful for a playoff spot this time. The target has been impressive in Greek football, netting game after game for PAOK. The player is expected to join big money signings Jonathan Kodija and Scott Hogan as the team try to overhaul their poor results of last season.

Ranieri now has recently agreed to a two year contract with Nantes but since he is over 65 years of age, a special dispensation is required from France’s Professional Football League before he can take charge of the team.

Nantes Chairman, Waldermar Kita however believes that the French Football Federation is blocking the file.

“The league agrees, I believe that only the French Football Federation (FFF) with Mr. Domenech is blocking the file a little, I do not know why. What we are interested in is the experience as a footballer and coach, since we know very well that he has coached the biggest teams in Europe,” Kita said.

McCoist impressed by Macleod

Rangers manager Ally McCoist says that he is extremely impressed by the performances of youngster Lewis Macleod. The 20-year-old managed to help Rangers secure yet another consecutive victory after a deflected goal against Inverness in the League Cup second round. Rangers may not be top of the table in the Scottish Championship just yet, but they have won the last five matches in succession. The form of Macleod has been a major reason behind it. The goal against Inverness was the fifth goal of the campaign for the 20-year-old, who is already attracting a lot of attention.

McCoist says that he is not sure how far the youngster can go in his career, but the club are trying to protect him for the moment. Macleod has faced issues with muscular injuries the last few years. It has been the case this campaign as well. McCoist says that the club are wrapping him in cotton wool so that he does not lose a promising career because of injuries. It was important for Rangers to get this victory and progress to the next stage of the competition. It will provide the club was some much-needed revenues, as it was recently revealed that Rangers could face yet another administration if they do not make up £ 4 million through a share issue.

“Lewis is terrific. We asked him to contribute more goals and assists and that little bit more of a killer instinct. He’s certainly given us that. How far can he go? He’s a good young player and that’s probably all I’d say at the moment. In history Rangers have had great young players coming through and I hope he goes on and does as well as some of them. It’s just great to have him back,” said the Rangers manager, whose team face Falkirk in the next round.
